Introduction
|
|
The ittyMIDI Serial to MIDI Converter Box is the only fully MIDI
compliant solution for converting RS-232 serial signals from all Palm handhelds to
MIDI. It provides both a MIDI in and out connection.
It can be used with Handspring units, which do not work with
serial to MIDI cables, as well as with nearly all other
Palm OS® compatible handhelds to create a fully MIDI compliant
interface. Using the ittyMIDI Serial to MIDI Converter Box will
ensure that your MIDI interface works with all other MIDI
instruments across the full temperature range and cable lengths of
the MIDI specification.

Power
|
|
The Converter Box runs on three AAA batteries or with the included
power supply. The battery life is about 100 hours of use.
Power requirements are 4.5 VDC @ 20 ma. A red LED is provided as an
indicator that power is on the unit. Any time the RS-232 Serial cable
is plugged in and active, the LED is on and the Converter is consuming power.
To conserve battery life, remove the RS-232 cable if the LED is on
when not in use. (Exactly when the serial port is active varies between
handheld devices.)

Connections
|
|
Serial: A single DB9 serial connector running at 31.25 Kbps.
No buffering is provided.
MIDI: Mini DIN 6 pin female connectors for IN and OUT. THRU is
provided in the ittyMIDI Player software. The included
six foot mini DIN to MIDI adapter cable converts the mini DIN to a male MIDI
connection. (An additional cable is required in order to use both IN and
OUT simultaneously.) An IBM PC PS/2 to AT keyboard adapter can also be used
to plug a standard MIDI cable into the box.
